Meet Your Champions: Alexis Featherston
2022 titles: Asheville Spring Warm-Up Reserve Equitation Champion, Southern States Reserve Equitation & Showmanship Champion, Capital City Reserve Pattern & Showmanship Champion, Southeastern Equitation Champion & Reserve Showmanship Champion, CCS Grand Champion, NC State Fair Equitation & Pattern Champion Reserve Showmanship Champion.
Alexis shows in 9-10 WT with Lenux Stables (now under the direction of Boones Farm and Stables) and throughout this year has earned many titles. Alexis has been showing in academy for three years now and has developed great showmanship and perfected her equitation throughout that time frame of just three years. Recently, earlier this year in April Alexis was given her first ever horse- Kalarama’s UCUC, she is known as UC at the barn. This year she has maneuvered each horse she has gotten a leg up over around the show ring beautifully, even without a top ribbon Alexis would tell you it was a win in her eyes no matter what, to get to navigate the most elegant breed through some of the toughest academy classes of Saturday morning is the win itself. Alexis has been through many different show venues located in states from Tennessee, North Carolina, and several more- but Alexis has of course grown a favorite arena to show in. Alexis’s favorite show venue is the JB Hunt Horse Complex in Raleigh, NC, where she has received many titles and shown numerous horses, including her own.
Each rider spends weeks of practice for each big show coming up, that especially applies to Alexis and her show prep - she loves all aspects of practicing in her lessons for shows, but her absolute favorite way to prepare in lessons is to practice her equitation while being able to practice navigating her horse around. Alexis has big dreams for her riding carrier, this Academy Nationals you can cheer her on as she meets one of her biggest goals of the year: to navigate her very own horse, UC through The Tennessee Miller Coliseum!! Although Alexis has been to many venues, she does wish to show UC in academy - in Blowing Rock, which is held in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. Once Alexis has met her goals in academy she dreams to move on to performance, when I asked her what her dream division in performance would be she answered equitation, but she mentioned that she would also love to explore 3 gaited once she can accomplish her equitation goals.
Getting to personally know Alexis and UC I very quickly learned they have such special and very sweet personalities. UC loves many foods, but her very favorite snack is bananas and grapes, she’d choose them any day over an original favorite - such as peppermints (although she loves peppermints too)! Nowadays picking your academy outfit can be very tough, there are so many colors to choose from, and your outfit can help you stand out in the show ring. So when I asked Alexis what her favorite academy outfit color is, she answered that her all-time favorite is Tiffany blue- but if she could get another in a different color, it would be purple.
Now that you’ve gotten to know Alexis and UC a little bit, if you will be attending National Academy Championships, please cheer loudly for this great team in the WT 9-10 division!!
